What is single covered yarn?
Single covered yarns are yarns where a second yarn is wrapped around a core yarn.
The single covered spandex yarn is a type of conventional covered yarn, which is referred to as traditional covered yarn. Spandex is covered by twists with polyester or nylon.
What is single covered spandex yarn the features?
Spandex covered yarns are made of bare spandex covering with various filament yarns such as polyester, nylon, rayon, and so on. You can knit or weave spandex covered yarn into different types of fabric for the end product. The clothes with it are stretchable and the narrows with it are comfortable.
Spandex/elastane is drawn at a certain rate to desired length. Spandex is fed at a constant speed and then covered with hard yarn (polyester or nylon). Its characteristics, in particular elongation and elasticity depends on machine parameter of the draft as well as on the twist per metre and the hard yarn.
Since it combines two types of yarn, covered yarn enjoys the characteristics of outer yarn and core yarn simultanesously. Usually the knitting performance,handfeel, dyeing effect and final elasticity are the main parameters for the product.

According to the number of coating layers, covered spandex yarn can be divided into two types: single-covered yarn (CCY) and double-covered yarn (DCY). Among them, nylon and polyester are mostly covered by single-wrap.
According to different equipment, covered spandex yarn can be divided into two types: Air-covered yarn (ACY) and Mechanically-covered yarn (SCY).
SINGLE-COVERED YARN (CCY) AND DOUBLE-COVERED YARN (DCY)
The single-covered yarn (CCY) is covered with a layer of nylon yarn on the outer layer of the spandex yarn. Its biggest disadvantage is that the core is more serious.
In the subsequent processing process, the exposed spandex yarn is easy to be worn by the machine parts and breaks; When heated, the color becomes yellow and sticky, and the strength decreases, and it shrinks to different degrees.
Double-covered yarn (DCY) is covered with two layers of nylon yarn on the outer layer of spandex yarn, and the directions of the two layers of covering are opposite.
The spandex core filaments are well covered, and the exposure is lighter, and because the nylon filaments wrap the core filaments symmetrically with opposite helix angles.
The elasticity of the wrapping yarn is well balanced, and generally, it can be processed in the subsequent process without shaping, but the processing cost of the double-covered yarn is relatively high.
AIR COVERED YARN (ACY) AND MECHANICALLY COVERED YARN (SCY).
Air-covered yarn ( ACY) is a yarn that draws the outer fiber filament and spandex yarn at the same time through a certain type of nozzle and is regularly sprayed by highly compressed air to form a rhythmic network point. Its fabric feels soft and smooth.
Mechanically covered yarn (SCY) is the continuous rotation of the outer fiber filament and winding it on the core yarn spandex drawn at a constant speed. With twist (English abbreviated as TPM), the fabric style is flat, and crisp is its main feature.
