A: P-cotton has been popular in recent years, and the online hype for the brand is similar to the hype for Gore-tex in previous years. P-cotton is a kind of thermal insulation material, which is usually filled in, and consumers generally cannot see its form. The Clo value testing equipment to measure the thermal performance is relatively professional. Ordinary people have never seen it, seen it and can't operate it. In addition, there are many test standards. Although they are all represented by clo values, different test standards may lead to great differences in test results. P cotton was first developed in 1983 as a thermal insulating material for the US military cotton suit, but that doesn't mean Primaloft invented it. Thinsulate, a similar thermal insulation material, was developed by 3M in 1978 (we'll talk about that later). On the Internet, P cotton is usually compared with how much puffy down, which is not very objective. Let me explain the principle in detail, you should understand a little bit.

a) Primaloft is a clothing thermal material brand that actually comes in many forms, unlike Gore-tex (which also comes in many sizes, but with a fabric exterior). There are generally three forms:

This is also why I said that only looking at the shagginess, in fact, can not compare the warmth of P-cotton and down.

b) P cotton is an artificial cotton, mainly composed of polyester. Even down mixed products are mixed with different proportions of polyester staple fiber. As a thermal material different from natural fiber, its biggest advantage is its all-weather property. In particular, almost all products of P-cotton have been waterproof treatment, which can still maintain a good heat preservation in rainy days or snow (down is easy to get wet in this case, thus significantly decreasing its thermal performance).

c) The three types of cotton mentioned above were not actually developed to improve the thermal performance, but for different designs of clothing. Cotton is used to do ordinary cotton clothing, hand plug cotton and down mixed is used to replace down, to do the puffy effect of down jacket. There are many grades of down, different down content, shagginess, eider down or goose down, all of which actually affect the answer to this question. And that's despite the fact that different types of hand-stuffed cotton come in different sizes. If I had to answer this question briefly, I would say that high-quality down has a slight advantage when it comes to the warm-to-weight ratio. That is to say, the same style of down jacket (here refers to the style), filled with 100g of high-quality down compared with 100g stuffed cotton or down mixed materials, high-quality down will be slightly better heating property, how much better? Most people don't feel it, but the Clo value is really down will be high.
